Refresh and maintain the practical skills required to safely climb, work, and carry out rescue operations on electricity network structures. This refresher course is designed for workers who already hold competency in pole top rescue and need to maintain their capability, confidence, and industry compliance when working at height in electricity network environments.

The training focuses on practical application, safe work practices, and emergency response procedures to ensure participants can continue to work safely and effectively on poles and electrical structures.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will refresh and demonstrate competency in:

• Hazard identification and risk management when working at height
• Correct inspection, fitting, and use of harnesses and fall protection equipment
• Safe climbing and work positioning techniques on electricity network structures
• Safe work practices when operating on poles and elevated structures
• Emergency response procedures and rescue planning
• Practical pole top rescue techniques using industry-standard rescue methods and equipment

Course Delivery

This refresher course is delivered over one day with a strong focus on practical training in realistic electricity network environments.

Training is aligned to:

• NZQA Unit Standard 10509 – Climb and work on electricity network structures
• NZQA Unit Standard 17025 – Carry out a rescue from an electrical structure

Participants will complete practical exercises and rescue scenarios using industry-standard equipment to refresh and maintain safe working practices and operational competency.

Pre-Requisites

Participants must:

• Hold current competency or previous training in Pole Top Rescue / WTC3
• Hold NZQA Unit Standards 6401 and 6402 (First Aid)

Recommended Skills and Knowledge

• NZQA Unit Standard 10507 – Use personal protective equipment in an electricity supply environment, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.
