More than having a policy

Why Correct Workplace Drug Testing Matters

A workplace alcohol and other drugs policy is only part of the process. When testing is required, the person administering the test needs to understand the collection procedure, documentation, onsite screening process, preparation for dispatch to the laboratory and their responsibilities.

Competency-based training helps organisations reduce procedural errors and gives workplace testers greater confidence when testing is required.

What competent workplace testers need to get right

Obtain informed consent correctly

Maintain documentation and chain of custody

Complete quality control procedures correctly

Collect and screen specimens consistently

Know when laboratory confirmation is required

Prepare and dispatch specimens correctly

Record and report the testing process accurately
