We provide Permit Receiver training aligned with NZQA Unit Standard 17588 – Apply for, accept, and carry out work according to a work permit in the workplace.

This course equips you with the knowledge and practical experience required to understand and work within a Permit to Work (PTW) system. You’ll learn to recognise when a work permit is needed, how to apply for and accept a permit, and how to safely carry out work under that permit.

Training follows the Permit to Work Manual and prepares attendees to work confidently alongside permit issuers, ensuring workplace safety and compliance with industry standards. Through hands-on exercises and simulated permit activities, you will gain practical experience completing Hot Work 1, Hot Work 2, and Cold Work permits through to issue and close-out.

What You’ll Learn

People credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Explain the types of work permits, the roles of those involved, and the requirements for receiving a work permit

  • Explain preparatory requirements when applying for a work permit

  • Accept a work permit and undertake work under the permit

  • Describe and carry out controls and actions at the end of a work period or upon completion of work

You will also:

  • Gain hands-on experience working with a Permit to Work system

  • Learn how to identify workplace hazards and apply control measures to protect people, assets, and the environment

  • Understand the importance of effective communication and documentation during permitted work

 

Course Delivery

Training combines theory with interactive, hands-on exercises to ensure participants can confidently apply the permit to work process.
Courses are delivered by experienced industry trainers at Besafe Training’s Wiri or Albany training centres, or can be arranged onsite at your workplace.

  • Provides practical scenarios of applying for work permit [Hotwork1, Hotwork2, Cold work] to the point of issue, and closeout on completion of the work.
