Course Category: r_Confined Space - Stage 2 and 3 - In Person

NZQA: 18426, 17599

This comprehensive course equips participants with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to understand, plan, and carry out safe confined space work.

Confined Space Stage 2 includes both Stage 1 (awareness and hazard identification) and Stage 2 (planning and documentation) components, ensuring participants are fully prepared to enter, observe, or supervise confined space work.

What You’ll Learn:

  • What defines a confined space and the risks involved

  • Health and safety responsibilities for all roles involved

  • Permit notification and implementation requirements

  • Control measures to eliminate, isolate, or minimise hazards

  • Monitoring and atmospheric testing procedures

  • Observation roles and communication protocols

  • How to plan and manage a safe entry into a confined space

  • Completing entry permits and supporting documentation

  • Developing an emergency response plan

Course Delivery:
This full-day course is delivered in person by experienced tutors through a mix of interactive classroom learning and practical simulation exercises. Participants complete both theory and hands-on components relevant to confined space entry and planning.

NZQA: 18426, 17599, 25510

This course is for individuals who are responsible for planning and supervising entry, atmospheric testing and interpreting gas monitoring results.

Working in confined spaces requires strict control measures, clear planning, and ongoing monitoring to ensure worker safety.

This course includes Stage 1 and Stage 2 content, and builds further competency through NZQA Unit Standard 25510 – Operate an atmospheric testing device to determine a suitable atmosphere exists to work safely.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Understanding confined spaces and their associated risks (US 18426)

  • Planning and preparing for safe entry into confined spaces (US 17599)

  • Operating gas detection equipment to conduct atmospheric tests (US 25510)

  • Interpreting test results and determining whether the atmosphere is safe

  • Responding appropriately to unsafe readings or abnormal results

  • Permit systems, emergency procedures, and documentation

  • Health and safety responsibilities under AS2865 and NZ regulations

Course Delivery:
Delivered over two days, this course includes classroom-based theory, hands-on practical training, and equipment use. You will complete confined space simulations, plan safe entry, and conduct live atmospheric testing using calibrated gas detectors.
