Learn the skills and knowledge to supervise the safe removal of friable (Class A) and/or non-friable (Class B) ACM in compliance with New Zealand regulations.
Designed for experienced asbestos workers stepping into a supervisory role, the course covers planning, oversight and documentation during asbestos removal projects.
What You’ll Learn:

How to plan for the removal of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs)

Preparing and setting up the site for asbestos removal activities

Supervising testing, air monitoring, clearance procedures, and documentation in consultation with the licensed assessor and removalist

Overseeing safe removal, decontamination, and disposal processes

Supporting and supervising team members to maintain compliance and safety
Course Delivery:
This course combines classroom-based learning with scenario-based supervision exercises. Training is aligned to real-world asbestos removal operations and includes documentation and compliance requirements under the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016.
When removing asbestos what training is required?
Certification and Licensing Note:
Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded NZQA Unit Standard 29767. This qualification supports your eligibility to act as a supervisor under a licensed asbestos removal contractor. It does not in itself constitute a removal licence. To apply for or maintain a Class A or Class B licence, contact WorkSafe New Zealand.

Entry RequirementsOnce you have completed the supervisor training, to be a nominated supervisor you must have at least:
- For a Class A asbestos removal licence: three years relevant industry experience in removing friable asbestos.
- For a Class B asbestos removal licence: one year’s relevant industry experience removing non-friable asbestos.
